What We Are
Good At

We have refined the old concept of the “General Practitioner” to a more modern pinpointed effort, combining legal expertise and experience in specific fields of law that we believe essential for the overall representation, protection, and legal health of businesses and business people. The following are the diverse legal fields of concentration that P&M integrates with its experience for your benefit:

Corporate and Transactional Law: We are experienced corporate and transactional lawyers. From small start-ups to large privately-held corporations, P&M is experienced in every type of business entity. We provide legal and business consultation, advice and documentation related to structure and organization, financing, asset protection, sales and secured transactions, human resources, licensing, buying and selling businesses, leasing, land use, banking documentation and collection, employment law, insurance, regulation and compliance, interstate and international commerce (including import and export), and general business operations for such diverse businesses as real estate agencies, ownership, development and construction, banks and private lenders, manufacturing and wholesale distribution companies, retail sales entities, trading companies, U.S. subsidiaries of foreign companies, advertising agencies, liquidation and auction houses, condominium associations, and service providers such as medical, professional and technology businesses. These business categories are representative of actual clients we presently and have historically represented.

We also can provide customized outsourced in-house counsel services on a set fee basis, enabling clients to have access to P&M as a comprehensive legal department.

Our firm prides itself on the personal attention we give our clients in all business matters, seamlessly incorporating our integral knowledge and approach into sound legal advice and representation as it relates to your business rather than independent of your business. Legal risk/reward analysis and consequences that relate to your business will enable you to make informed decisions. Also, if the need arises, P&M are experts at coordinating specialty attorneys, out-of-state needs, and other outsourced professionals to further manage and organize the legal health of our clients.

Real Estate Law: Our real estate expertise is extensive and encompasses every aspect of real estate including title evaluation, title insurance defense claims and underwriting, title claims, acquisitions and development, financing, condominium creation and association representation, leasing and sales, brokerage, construction, mechanic’s liens, zoning, and other legal features and events that accompany the ownership and/or use of real estate. P&M has particular experience and are active in all manner and types of litigation involving real estate.

Banking: P&M provides a broad range of services to banks in the Chicago area and also serves as local counsel for out-of-state financial institutions that have matters pending in the Chicago area. We have many years of experience in negotiating and documenting complex commercial loan transactions for lenders and borrowers. In addition, the firm is actively involved in negotiating and documenting the workout or collection of non-performing loans and, when the need arises, has expertise and experience in the representation of banks and other secured, as well as, unsecured lenders and creditors in collection or bankruptcy proceedings.

Labor and Employment Law: P&M represents employers in all aspects of employee relationships, including non-union collective bargaining negotiations, arbitrations, employment discrimination and wrongful termination litigation. The firm aggressively handles employment cases before state and federal administrative agencies and in state and federal court. For our business and human resource clients, the firm's employment attorneys focus on a preventative approach to employment law by performing reviews of clients' employment practices to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. This preventative approach is further enhanced through the firm's careful drafting and periodic review of employee handbooks, employment contracts, termination agreements, restrictive covenants, compensation, and other employment agreement provisions.

Litigation: Our attorneys are engaged in an active and extensive trial and appellate practice in state and federal courts, including bankruptcy court, as well as federal and state administrative agencies, and alternative dispute resolution forums. The firm's varied litigation practice and experience has included the representation of Plaintiff or Defendant in a wide range of matters including prosecution or defense of real estate disputes involving land, title, sales contracts, leases, brokers, mortgage foreclosures, property rights, construction and mechanic’s lien claims, and other real estate related matters; uniform commercial code matters including secured and unsecured transactions on behalf of lenders, creditors, debtors, buyers and sellers; individual and corporate contract, shareholder and partner disputes; fraud and deceptive practices; class actions; consumer’s rights; trade creditor and debtor actions; insurance claims; employer/employee disputes including wrongful or retaliatory termination, non-compete and confidentiality agreement disputes; collection of judgments and receivables and contract obligations; and creditor’s rights in bankruptcy proceedings.
