Who We Are

P&M was founded in 2008 by Stephen Pokorny and Spencer Marks. Together, they have over 70 years of experience and expertise in providing professional legal, business and personal representation, consultation and advice to individuals and local, national and international businesses. Steve Pokorny was a partner at Laser, Schostok, Kolman & Frank, and a partner at Laser, Pokorny, Schwartz, Friedman & Economos, P.C., and Spence Marks was a managing partner at Marks, Marks & Kaplan, Ltd. Both worked their way up from law clerk to senior partner, gaining the respect of colleagues, clients and the judiciary for their high integrity, legal insight and work ethic. Steve and Spence have achieved and maintain an “AV” rating (Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating for lawyers). The firm’s vision and founding principle is that maintaining a small compact platform to integrate our extensive experience with specific knowledge and legal expertise, encourages team work, discourages typical over staffing, and enables the delivery of cost effective, efficient and high quality legal services to our clients.

Like you, we own and operate our business and have experienced and addressed many of the same business issues you face everyday. Not all lawyers have that kind of experience. Therefore, we truly understand the hopes, visions, concerns and fears of ownership and operation. We actually know the feeling of uncertainty when starting a business, budgeting for it, protecting it, expanding it and even saving it. We know what it feels like to take a risk, and then succeed! P&M has this kind of hands-on experience, and the attendant courage, work ethic and passion. We are accustomed to, and good at, out-of-the-box thinking for tough legal and business issues. We don’t fit into the preformed cookie cutter law firm model…and neither does your business. We are seasoned professional lawyers and business people. We know and are trained to deliver the legal thinking and representation you hope and expect to receive when you have a legal or business problem that requires outside objective thinking and counsel.
